The Ken Shu Dojo offers adult karate classes at our dojo in Whitefield, Manchester to anyone aged 14 and above. Members in the adult class vary in experience and age (our eldest is over 70), we have students from beginners all the way to members with two to three decades of experience in Shito-Ryu Shukokai as well as other styles of karate and martial arts.
Our ethos is real karate for real people, however we treat all who train in the adult karate class as individuals as no two people are alike and members are encouraged to work at there own pace. The one thing that is evident is that there are no egos whatsoever. From 9th Kyu (red belt) to 6th Dan (our highest graded member) we’re all one unit developing and working together, everyone helps those needing it.

Don’t just take our word for it…
“I was sceptical to begin with as nothing is for free, what was the catch? There isn’t one! I was eased in at the back of the class, I felt embarrassed lacking coordination and balance, but I needn’t worry. The assistant instructors had me feeling at ease in no time at all.
I am three months into my karate and am loving it! Still at the back of class but aspiring to be on the front line. They line up in grade order I am always watching those at the front, looking through a sea of bodies. Their effort and standard is amazing, one day I hope to be as good.
There are no egos whatsoever in this club and I’ve seen all ages come in. You’re never too old, look at me, in my late 40’s and trying something new.
Thank you to all the instructors and assistants for making me feel like part of the family.”
